Ash Wednesday

Yesterday I participated in my first Ash Wednesday. I had always acknowledged Catholics in their religious devotion to the day but had little understanding of the symbolism of the day. Luckily I had the opportunity to participate in supper and listened to pastor Buddy explain the meaning behind the day. I did not know that Methodists partake in marking with the ashes but I'm very glad they do. Attending my church more often, I'm finding that I am starting to understand who I am and what I believe. I appreciate the fact that the Methodist have a great moral conduct but allow for individual interpretation. With Kevin coming from the Catholic church and myself growing up in the Baptist ways, I think we're a good fit at St. Paul.

As a side note, I sometimes do not believe that Kevin truly grew up in the Catholic church. For example, I came home from teaching pre-k and excitedly asked him to guess what today was....he had no clue, so I yelled out Fat Tuesday...he still had no clue...Mardi Gras I said....he was like ohhhh yeah....
Then, last night Kevin and I met in passing, since he had a 30 something hr work schedule, and Kevin's first words were "you have something smeared on your head..." I wanted to say, "yeah, it's Ash Wednesday...." He's a little slow, but we're working on him.

It's been a great today and now I'm trying desperately to focus on my school work...it's not going so great since I'm on here. I can't wait to close on our house and I can't stop mentally planning!

A Rainy Day in the South

What a rainy day in Columbus. Today has been a strange, grumpy day. It all started with waking at 4:00am when Kevin was preparing to leave and then being told at 5:00 that I would not see him until tomorrow morning....funny how he does this at the last possible moment. Then upon arriving at the school today I had very little time to prepare for class. The kids, thank goodness, were helpful in preparing but boy were they wild. I do believe with my whole heart that the barometric makes people strange. The kids were grumpy toward each other, toward me and wouldn't get focused. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it outside so I tried to dance the energy out of them.....I think I may have tired faster. Anyway, I was not in the mood to deal with everyone.

Since arriving home I have not been as productive as I had hoped. These papers for Advance Assessment and Educational Research are going to smother me. Basically this whole "Spring Break" has been a work frenzy. Over the next couple of weeks this is all that I can think of that needs to be done in school:

1) Adv Assessment Paper
2) Proposal- Literature Review
3) Midterm Project for Assisting Technology
4) Adv Assess. Achievement Assessment (2 )

Also, are closing date on the house is March 15...so the weekend after I will be busy moving.

I know that I can do all this, I just wish I could get focused and not be so tired. I'm about to get ready for Wed night church and trying conjure up the strength to warm up on flute and think up lessons for the prek-1st graders tonight.  It will get done!
